Application of Transient Electromagnetic Method in Dam Leakage Detection

Case background: In July 2014, the reservoir identified leakage points, caves and water channels within a depth of 60 meters of the dam, providing a basis for the safe repair of the dam.

Explanation of the survey: 1) High-density surveying has been performed in the middle of the dam, revealing a concentrated area of anomalies, located in the same region as the 140-190° interval shown in the diagram. Transient electromagnetic surveying also revealed anomalies, separating the main anomaly into four laterally distinct regions, with significantly better lateral resolution than high-density surveying. 2) Two independent low-resistance areas were also observed in the middle of the dam at positions 220° and 295°, which were later confirmed to be separate seepage zones.
